TankLog Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 4, 2026

TankLog ("we", "our", "the app") is an aquarium water-parameter logging app for iOS and Android. This policy explains what data TankLog collects, why, and what control you have over it.

The short version

TankLog is local-first. By default, everything you log — tanks, readings, targets, reminders, notes — stays only on your device, in a local database. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you sign in and turn on cloud sync (a Pro feature). We never sell your data. We do not run ads or ad-tracking of any kind.

Data we collect

WhatWhenWhy
Email addressOnly if you choose to sign in (Google, Apple, or email) to enable cloud sync or restore a purchaseIdentify your account so your data can sync across devices
Tank data (tank names, water-parameter readings, target ranges, reminders, notes)Only for signed-in Pro users with sync enabledBack up and sync your logs across your devices
Purchase historyWhen you buy or restore TankLog ProUnlock Pro features via our payments processor, RevenueCat
App usage events (e.g. a reading was logged, a chart was viewed, counts and durations only)Always, via Firebase AnalyticsUnderstand which features are used so we can improve the app
Crash and error reports (device model, OS version, stack traces)Only if the app crashes, via Firebase CrashlyticsDiagnose and fix bugs

What we deliberately never collect: your tank notes, tank names, email address, or any other personally identifying content are never sent to our analytics or crash-reporting tools. Those tools only ever see anonymous counts, durations, and category labels.

TankLog requests no camera, photo-library, or location permissions on either platform. The only device permission requested is notification permission (Android), used solely for offline maintenance reminders you create yourself.

Third parties we use

TankLog is built on Google Firebase and RevenueCat, which process data strictly on our behalf as service providers — we do not sell or share your data with them for their own advertising purposes:

Data in transit and at rest

All data sent to our backend is encrypted in transit (TLS). Firestore access is restricted by security rules so that you can only ever read or write your own data — access is denied by default for everyone else, including us.

Your rights

If you are in the EU/UK or California and want to exercise a GDPR or CCPA data right beyond in-app export/delete, contact us at the email below.

Children's privacy

TankLog is a general-audience hobbyist tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date above and, where required, notify you in the app.
